Dakota McConnell is a percussionist and educator from Casa Grande, Arizona. Dakota is an alumni of The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps where he marched from 2014-2017, leading the section in ‘15 and ‘17. Dakota also marched with Pulse Percussion in the 2017 and in 2018 led the group to a 4th place finish. Dakota has a Bachelor of Arts from ASU in interdisciplinary studies with concentrations in business and economics. Dakota has taught Casa Grande Percussion Ensemble since fall 2016, taught with The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps in 2018 & 2023-2025, and Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps 2019-2022. Dakota has learned from, but not limited to, Glen Crosby, Ike Jackson, John Mapes, Cisco Hance, Rick Barclay, Ryan Anderson, Ezekiel Lanser, Connor Yasuda, Drew Guy, Will Edmonds, Stevie Hagel, and John Sutton. This is his 8th year with Flux.
Dakota McConnell -Director
Martin Hebda grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This is where his passion for music really blossomed. He was very active in the school and in community music program. He marched with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps in 1992 and 1993. Martin studied music education at the University of Arizona and participated in small brass ensembles, vocal ensembles, jazz ensembles, wind ensemble, marching band, and pep band. Martin has been teaching music for twenty years. He is currently in his seventeenth year as band director at Casa Grande Union High School. Martin stays involved with the professional organizations in Arizona. He served eight years on the WGAZ board serving as the AIA liaison, show host coordinator, and vice president. He also served as the AMEA Southeast Regional Governor for four years. Martin is currently the AMEA member at large and the vice president of AzMBA. Martin enjoys working with students of all ages and directing the various ensembles. It has been an honor to conduct the Southern Arizona Honor Band. This is his 8th year with Flux.

Sherry Rogers is a cornerstone of the marching arts community, with a journey that began through her children’s participation in elementary school band programs and has since evolved into key leadership roles. As the Operations and Member Manager for The Academy Drum & Bugle Corps, Sherry plays a critical role in overseeing the organization’s day-to-day functions and ensuring member success. Since 2014, she has held the vital position of Merchandise Manager, where her expertise has been instrumental in strengthening the organization’s brand and outreach.
Beyond her corps responsibilities, Sherry is the driving force behind Harsh Reality Designs, a highly successful business specializing in premium embroidery and screen printing. Her leadership in this venture underscores her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to quality.
In her expanded role as Operations Manager for Flux Indoor Percussion, Sherry takes on a pivotal and hands-on leadership position that frees the instructional and design teams to focus entirely on creative innovation and teaching excellence. Her dedication and strategic vision are key assets fueling Flux’s continued growth and the development of percussion programs across Arizona.
This year marks Sherry’s eighth impactful year with Flux Indoor Percussion, highlighting her enduring commitment and influence within the organization and the broader percussion community.

Whitney Hansen- Board Member
Whitney Hansen is a music educator residing in Phoenix, AZ. She is an active teacher, percussion instructor, designer, and program consultant. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education from Northern Arizona University and currently teaches front ensembles across AZ as well as being a full time elementary band director. Whitney has enjoyed being involved in the marching arts as both performer and educator. She was a member of Dark Sky Percussion and continued on to instruct and direct various high school percussion programs and independent ensembles. She has worked with Breakthrough Indoor Percussion, Phenom Drum & Bugle Corps, and Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps. This is her 8th year with Flux.
